Jesus Is God the Son

Jesus Christ is not merely a great teacher, prophet, moral example, or important figure in the Bible. He is God the Son. John tells us that before the world began, Christ was already there: “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, NLT). Everything was created through Him, and nothing was created except through Him. When we come to Jesus, then, we are not simply learning from someone who knows about God. We are encountering the One who came from God, who is one with the Father, and through whom God has made Himself known to us.

Jesus Came to Us

And this is what makes the gospel so extraordinary: the eternal Son of God entered our humanity. “So the Word became human and made his home among us” (John 1:14, NLT). Jesus knew hunger, weariness, grief, rejection, temptation, friendship, suffering, and pain, yet He lived without sin. He taught the truth, showed compassion, confronted hypocrisy and sin, welcomed those others pushed aside, healed the sick, and revealed the heart and character of the Father. God did not remain distant from us. In Jesus Christ, He came near.

Jesus Is Savior and Lord

Jesus also came for a purpose that went far beyond teaching us how to live. He came to save us. Humanity’s sin separated us from God, and we could not repair that separation ourselves. Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross, bearing our sin, and on the third day He rose from the dead. Through Him we can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and given eternal life. But receiving Christ as Savior is not the end of our relationship with Him. He is also Lord. He calls us to follow Him, trust Him, obey Him, and allow His truth to shape the way we live. Jesus did not simply come to give us a better life here. He came to bring us back to God and make us His own.
