Prayer is where we bring our hearts before God—our questions,
our hopes, our fears, our relationships, and the things we
haven’t figured out yet.

You don’t need perfect words. You just need to come.

Prayer is talking with God and spending time with Him in the middle of your real life. It is bringing Him what is happening in your heart, asking for His wisdom, thanking Him for His goodness, confessing when you’ve gotten something wrong, and sometimes sitting before Him when you don’t quite know what to say.

And prayer isn’t only for emergencies or major decisions. God wants fellowship with you in the ordinary places too. You can talk with Him about the relationship you’re considering, the disappointment you’re carrying, the decision you’re trying to make, or the Tuesday afternoon when absolutely nothing dramatic is happening. Prayer is part of walking with God.

The more we pray, the more we learn to bring our lives under God’s leadership instead of simply asking Him to approve the plans we’ve already made. Prayer changes things, but prayer also changes us. As we spend time with God, He shapes our desires, corrects our thinking, strengthens our faith, and teaches us to recognize His heart.

You don’t need a special vocabulary to pray. Talk to God honestly. Tell Him what you’re thankful for. Tell Him what you’re worried about. Ask Him the questions you don’t know how to answer. Confess what needs to be confessed. Pray about the people you love. Ask for wisdom. Open your Bible and pray about what you’re reading. And don’t be afraid of silence. Prayer doesn’t have to be filled with words every second.

As believers, we pray to our Father in the name of Jesus Christ, trusting the Holy Spirit to help us as we pray. Jesus is the reason we can come confidently before God, and praying in His name is more than simply adding the words “in Jesus’ name” to the end of a prayer. We come because of Him, trusting in Him, and seeking what is consistent with His Will and character.

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, and His example reminds us that prayer begins with God—not with everything we want from Him. We honor Him, seek His will, depend on Him for what we need, ask for forgiveness, forgive others, and ask Him to help us walk faithfully.

Most importantly, keep praying. Some days prayer may feel deeply meaningful. Other days you may feel distracted or have only a few sentences to say. Come anyway. A growing prayer life isn’t built by always having the perfect prayer. It’s built by continuing to turn your heart toward God.

There is no part of your life that has to remain outside of your conversations with Him.

When you don’t know what to do, ask God for wisdom. Bring Him the decision before you’ve made up your mind, and be willing to follow where He leads—even when His direction isn’t what you expected.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
JAMES 1:5 (NLT)

You don’t have to clean up your emotions before bringing them to God. Tell Him where it hurts, what disappointed you, what you’re afraid of, and what you don’t understand. He can handle the truth about how you feel.

“IO my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge”
PSALM 62:8 (NLT)

Ask God for more than the relationship you want. Ask Him for clarity, wisdom, self-control, and the courage to recognize what is true. Put the person—and the outcome—in God’s hands..

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you fTrust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.or asking.”
PSALM 62:8 (NLT)

Sometimes the prayer is simply, “Lord, I want to know You more.” Spend time with Him without an agenda. Ask Him to teach you through His Word, make you more like Christ, and deepen your desire for Him.

“Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”
JAMES 4:8(NLT)

Sometimes you know exactly what you want to say to God. Other times, you just need a little help getting started.
