Mark 11:23-24(NKJV)
“23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
Many single women of every race and socioeconomic background desire a good man, and they are willing to go the distance to secure this blessing for their lives. It used to be that meeting someone new would happen at the frequent and familiar places in a person’s life, like the grocery store, church, gym, or work. Of course, this can still happen, but nowadays, meeting someone at your fingertips through the speed of internet dating is more common. Along with this, there are also many other options out there that give us quick access to eligible bachelors, but the reality is that often, the disappointments can be as plentiful as the opportunities those options present. This is the downside we sometimes neglect to consider.
Heartbreak and disappointment have become so common in significant relationships that we almost expect them to happen, and some of us consider it an enigma when neither of them occurs. As women, our radars are always up because we expect infidelity and all the pain that comes with it. So, even though we look all cool, calm, and collected, our guards are always up. We’ve become adept at surveillance and monitoring, because we’re always on the lookout for stuff that might cause heartache down the road. We bring this with us when we meet someone new, and we remain on alert during dating. We’re looking for any evidence that might come back to hurt us.
This is the learned behavior of fear. We either saw it in the women around us, or we picked it up after being heartbroken so many times ourselves. When this is our mode of operating, we never give faith a chance. It’s the same ol’ story. We begin with fear, we end with fear. We’ve got to know that this isn’t what God wants for us.
Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:33-34(NLT), “33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Fear can make an entrance in a relationship when we don’t live in the present but worry about what is going to happen to us in the future. It’s an inevitability when we choose to bypass God’s way and begin to seek out potential candidates for dating and marriage ourselves. This is a risk that can lead to disappointment because we are not walking by faith but taking matters into our own hands. Some women might vehemently deny that they are doing this. They will say they are doing what is necessary to back their faith. If our commitment is to back our faith with good works, the best way to do this is to seek God and allow Him to take care of all the details while we continue to be a blessing to others.
Our faith must be firmly planted in the reality that God is in control. Our lives belong to Him, and He knows the plans He has for us. Our Heavenly Father never makes mistakes. Matthew 6:33 affirms that seeking God first is paramount, and if we’re seeking Him, we won’t have room to seek anyone else. He alone deserves our total focus, and when this is where our hearts campout, He promises to supply all our needs, including a partner to walk with us through life.
God’s blessings are pleasant and good for us. When He adds greater blessings to your life, you won’t be disappointed. You won’t need to be on guard about whether you will be left in a worse predicament for having received it. Nor will you need to question whether it is right for you. Jeremiah 17:7-8(ESV) declares, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Our Heavenly Father will bless us according to His divine Will. If we place our trust in His provision and do what He says to fulfill our call, our spouses will cross our paths, and our marriages will continually be fruitful and blessed.■
